A question I’ve pondered countless times, its exact origin elusive. It’s just one of the countless thoughts that haunt my mind, especially when I’m alone.
But where do I even begin?
Recently, I attended an online seminar where our speaker introduced the concept of the “wheel of life.” Intrigued, I sought further information online and discovered what they call as “8 dimensions of wellness.”
Wellness, as defined in this article (1), encompasses a diverse range of interconnected dimensions, including physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, vocational, financial, and environmental aspects. The article emphasizes the importance of addressing all these dimensions simultaneously, as neglecting any one over time can negatively impact others and ultimately affect our overall health, well-being, and quality of life.
I believe this concept can be effectively applied to evaluate our personal progress and well-being. Have you ever considered whether performance evaluation forms commonly used in workplaces, such as annual performance appraisals, could be adapted for our personal lives? The answer is likely yes. By attempting to use these tools, we can gain valuable insights into our strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. However, it’s important to note that without trying, we may never truly understand their effectiveness in our personal lives.
Instead of conducting annual evaluations, why not adopt a system similar to businesses and organizations? Quarterly business reviews are conducted regularly to review their success plan, assess their progress toward achieving goals, and adjust their plan as needed. This approach allows for more timely feedback and action planning since everything is still fresh in mind. We could implement a 3-month review to assess our progress and identify areas for improvement. This approach could also help combat procrastination.
